Why is this man smiling? Because I spent the last few day chasing Powder! Sandy and I headed down the Durango for a long weekend and it turned out great. It was the start of "SnowDown" fest in Durango, so they had a big parade and all kinds of drunken activists over the weekend. Friday night was very interesting in downtown Durango. Lets just say they do a pretty good job duplicating Madison on Halloween. Saturday we went to Wolfcreek Pass to law down the law! After making short work of that. It was Powder Time! Wolfcreek gets 650" on snow every year and it was knee deep.
We hiked the knife edge a couple of times it was epic. Deep, deep snow and no one around! It's the kind of stuff you dream of....Anyhow after the we did some house hunting. Durango in on the short list.
Sunday we skied Purg and then A-basin on Monday. So the whole weekend was shot! Get fat in the Skis baby!
Whats 650" of snow look like? About 5' over my truck that's what!
My dog, he's training for the "Hang out the Window in a blizzard Marathon"
My next Sport
Now you know why I'm smiling! Two things make me smile and one of them is skiing! Can't wait to get on the bike tomorrow!

Getting ready for Durango!
I'm heading down to Durango tomorrow for some awesome skiing and maybe some riding. So I had a ton of crap to do today! Pack, tune skis, wash and load bikes, wash clothes, workout, ride, watch porn....Bla bla, bla.... First things, first. The Batteries in my heart rate monitor went to hell. So that needed fixing.
As you can see you need a very big Knife for this job (thank you Martha Swuart). The biggest you can find, bigger the better. That way if you slip you wont just cut yourself but remove a finger or two. After that was complete I need some "top-secret" supplements. Off to the Vitamin Store to restock.
Its amazing you could cure anything Cancer, AIDs you name it with all the crap in one of those stores. Every kind of weed or twig you can think of, not to mention the freaks that work or shop at these emporiums. Want a min, if I'm in one, I must be one. Never Mind.
Then its was back home for some riding. Yes! I'm scheduled for only an 1.5 hour base ride with two power interval sets. They are 3 by 1.5min intervals with a min cad of 110. So I head over to this large grave yard (people are just dyeing to get in there). It's about .5 hour ride over there and a nice warmup. You can really work on your cornering skill, try it sometime. Plus no one will bother you, at least you hope. Man leg speed training hurts like hell! So I decided to treat myself on the way home.
Now doesn't that look nice? More Fuel, More go! I just got done tuning and waxing 5 pairs of skis for this weekends fun. The whole place smells of wax. Mmmmmmmmm I just love that smell. Maybe I could use it for hair removal? But there is nothing like the sweet smell of ski wax. I'm really cranked up about this weekend and hope it goes well. I've put a huge effort into this, so I hope it pays off. There is nothing like the speed of skiing and kicking some ass!
Maybe I'll see Wells or "Deadly" Ned.
Well back to Packing, I know I'm forgetting something! I wonder what Goats doing right now.

Today's Great Adventure
I was working on my paper for a while today and got bored, so I went for a ride. I was schedule to do a 2.5 hour base ride with some tempo work but I blew that off for something a little longer. I thought I'd head down to the city. Downtown Baby! Because that's were I belong. Its about 20 miles on a string but I headed out and around the Chapel Hill (Or some other doltish name) Reservoir and went up the "Mary Carter Greenway". Greenways are big with the tree huggers and with my effort to fit-in. I thought I'd give it a shot. The views along the Greenway are so beautiful too!
On paper it looked like maybe 60miles and I could do my tempo work on the roads around the reservoir. They a flat and long with no stop signs. You can bust out into full TT mode for as long as you can hold back the pain. I loaded up with all the needed gear (tube, pump, apple, Banana and drink) and off I go! The first hour was pretty smooth. Spinning along in the 55deg sunshine.
Have you ever ask yourself. What happen to the Rat that crossed the road?
He became this Dude LUNCH!
One the thing I've haven't gotten use to is the numder of Homeless in the city of Denver. They are like bars in Milwaukee (one every street corner).
Here are some of the Views along the Greenway. Yes that is razor wire and a car crushing yard.
And you can't forget about the rivefront housing. There are about 50 little shack that people live in going up the beautiful Greeway. Can you see the Silver Specialized MTB behind the one on the lower right? It's hard to see, but there is one. I think it could be The Barons second home. The ride turned out to be longer then planed. Never trust those damn maps. Because as I was heading into downtown, I was 55miles into this little trip and still looking at another 25 to get home. So I stop in for a little fuel.
triple shot and a Cookie, now that's what I'm taken about! Slam it and Jam it.....The rest is history and in the book!

Skiing, Biking and Fun
After a day of rest (I went skiing and to a job interview in Vail yesterday) then it was back on the bike for some good fountain miles. The temp was about 65 deg sunny and little wind. After a short warm up ride down to Cherry Creek lake (or whatever they call it. It's really not a lake but a dammed up creek and some swamp land. But I guess for "plans people" anything that holds 5 gals of water it's a lake) . There's a nice long grade at the dam site with about a 6 percent climb and takes about 8-10 mins to spin up. I was scheduled to do a set of 5 power interval's today, so this worked out to be the perfect spot. The interval's are 5 by 5 mins with a cadence of 110 plus for the duration. So much for the Less Pain more Gain CTS plan. Ouch holding that spin going into the 5th min. Just hurts.
Im working on trying drop some weight early this year (I'd like to be 160 at the start unlike my 175 in past years) It's going to hurt my ski racing but so far it hasn't done to much damage. So this morning I made some sugar free Brownie. They are not to bad (I'm muching on them now) with a gal of mike the wash them down :)
I real hoping to land this job out in the mountains it would be a lot of fun to live train in the hart of the Rockies. Well I need to get some dinner started..........I wonder what Goats doing right now?

100 Miles of Base
Just busted out a 100 today with 45degs and sunshine it wasn't to bad untill the last 25.....OUCH. Couldn't break 16.5 mph at the end old ladies were passing me by. On the bright side that means I only need to ride about a 1-1/2 tomorrow . SWEET.........65deg and sunny should be nice. Maybe I'll load the Dog up in the kiddy kart for that.......I wonder what Goats doing right now?
